Something Pink

Spring is bursting in Georgia, y'all! The trees and bushes are covered in blooms, and the cars, roads, and everything else is covered in pollen. We are fortunate to have red and pink azaleas in our yard. Though it makes it tough on those with allergies, they sure are gorgeous!

As I was taking some macro shots in the back yard, this guy came by for an afternoon snack. I particularly how it looks like he's hanging on with his left "hand."

Play Ball!

Little League play started last week, and we had "fun day" at the ball park on Saturday, followed by a game. J is playing shortstop, and he's excited. He got the winning rally started in the bottom of the last inning and his team came back from 2 down to win 8-7 Saturday. It was fun, and the first summer sunburn of the season!

Sky Light

J and I stopped at the park Saturday morning to kick the ball around. It was a bit chilly, but fun nonetheless. Of course, he had to endure me shooting some pics. This sky shot gives you an idea how nice it was this weekend.

Georgia Beach Cafe

You know, I chose this picture to take a break from the Myrtle Beach shots, get away from the water, sand, and so forth. So I uploaded this, then I looked at it...and I'm right back in the beach! In the middle of Metro Atlanta! I guess the beach theme was meant to continue.

Sprung!

Although it was 28F (with the wind chill) at my house this morning, Spring has arrived. The pear trees are past full bloom and the redbud is coming out. Dogwood's won't be far behind. The cool temps helped with the bright blue sky, I think.

For those of you in the northeast US, hang in there. Warmer temps are coming!

High Dive

The wide angle (this is 12mm) lens is so cool! How else could one get a shot like this if one's Spidey powers weren't working too well?

Pier-ing Out

When I got to my hotel room on the 14th floor, the sun was almost down. Atlantic sunsets aren't as spectacular as Pacific sunsets (the sunrises are better), but that doesn't mean that setting-sun-gold doesn't rock! I threw my suitcase and briefcase on the bed and ran to the balcony, getting the camera ready on the way. I managed to squeeze off a few shots, of which this was the best. Turned out better than I thought it would. Makes me want to go back! The water is so relaxing and calming......[sigh]

Master of All I Survey!

I think he's the king of the beach. Notice how no one else is near....or they have fallen at his feet.

Where's the Worm?

Do sea gulls ever sleep? Seems they are always flying around. I was on the beach after dark, and they were there. I was on the beach at sunrise...and there they were. I guess these guys are the proverbial "early birds." But, I don't see any worms. They don't look like they're hurting for food, though, do they?

Atlantic Moon

Taken from the balcony of my hotel room in Myrtle Beach last week, this is a 116 second exposure at f/13, 20mm lens, 200 ISO. I didn't do much to this shot, just a little white balance tweak and a little dodging/burning.

Sun Gull

The sunrise wasn't spectacular, but it was still pretty good the other day. Of course, anytime you get sunrise on the beach, it's gotta be pretty good! These gulls were looking for some breakfast, I believe.

Update: 11:00 EDT, 3/11/07...I replaced the photo with this version after taking a lesson in dodging/burning from a DVD from Scott Evans , my neighbor and an awesome photographer. Check out his DVD set if you are looking to learn how to use Photoshop. It helped me with this shot (I'm a beginner with PS/CS2).

Is It Live?....

....or Memorex?

The view from my hotel room was really great...right on the beach, just above the pool, on the 14th floor. I'm usually staring out the window at a brick wall or HVAC unit, so this was a nice change. Something about the railing, sky, and water being reflected in the TV struck me, so I shot it. See what happens to you if you strike me? lol

JLS

More from Myrtle Beach the other evening, just as the sun was about gone. Someone was feeding the seagulls, and I was worried we were going to be target practice...but that didn't happen. This guy kind of separated from the pack. Reminded me of Jonathan Livingston Seagull. Does anyone remember that movie? When I was in 7th grade, our entire middle school (I went to a Catholic school in Tampa)took a field trip and went to see that movie at the theatre, along with all the other middle schools from all the other Catholic schools in Tampa. It was kind of bizarre. Then we went back to school to talk about the movie. I guess to make sure none of us were going to fly ourselves into the side of the cliff by the ocean!

Stairway to Heaven

Walking off the beach in Myrtle Beach the other night, this was my view. I loved the way the balconies of the hotel were outlined by the deep blue night sky, with the little spec of light showing off. I don't know for sure if that is Venus or Jupiter...I thought it was Venus, the person I was with thought it was Jupiter. I'm gonna stick with Venus...let me know if you know!

Orange Speed

Funny thing, this photoblogger community. There I was, working at a trade show in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Walking around, seeing who else was there, I spied this orange beauty. Now, I'm not a car guy, really, but this one looked kinda cool. What really excited me, though, was the orange-ness of it. I immediately thought of Regular Joe and JKonig and how excited they would be to see this freakin' bright orange car. So, I stepped beyond my cocoon and asked the folks showing this car if I could shoot it. They were very gracious.....and so, here you go Joe and Jen. Enjoy!

Ice Needles

Another one from the archive, and a film shot scanned from the negative. Shot during the last real ice storm around our house, back in 2005. This was the photo outing that got me back into SLR photography after years of digital P&S, and started me down the road to getting a DSLR.
