Timeless Pose

There is quite a bit of driftwood and dead trees on Jekyll Island. In fact, one of the beaches is called "Driftwood Beach" and is rated (by someone) as one of the 5 most romantic beaches. This particular tree is south of Driftwood Beach. Something about it seems almost pre-historic to me; the pose timelessly and effortlessly pointing to the sky.

I did a bit of a curves/level adjustment on this to take some of the gray out of it, but that's about it.

Board Walk

We made time to get away to celebrate our 18th anniversary (a little belatedly) and took a trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia. This is our first time on the island, and it has been pleasant. We were lucky enough to have a full moon last night, so that called for some long exposures down by the water. 12 mm, f/8, 94 second exposure.

By the way, this is a color shot, almost exactly as it came out of the camera. I just adjusted the horizon a bit as it was more crooked in the original. The dock is tilted like that.

This shot was inspired a bit by this one from Houser, though mine pales in comparison.

Thinking Teen

My daughter, now 14. She's a quiet girl who personifies the phrase "still waters run deep." She's an amazing girl, and we are very proud of her.

Oh, and I love her, too!

Passing

J is playing soccer (football for those of you not in the US) again this Fall after playing baseball last year. He's really into it. At his game Saturday, I shot over 80 pics of the 2 teams. I got some good shots that I hope to share with the kids and their parents. I'll be able to post a couple on here, but probably only of my kid.

I shot in the "Sports" setting with the ISO at 640 to help stop the action. Worked pretty well, I think.

Enter at Right

This is an entrance door at one of the Pavilions at UVA in Charlottesville, Virginia. I played around with color, and b/w, but this selective b/w looked best to me. I'm always interested in your comments.

Shot with 50 mm/f1.4 at f/2.5.

Early "Get Smart"

Anytime I see a series of doorways or doors in a hall, I can't help but think of the opening to the TV show "Get Smart." If anyone remembers that, there was a series of different kinds of doors that open just before the camera gets to them. That always intrigued me. Well, there's a little peak into my scary brain! If you're not familiar with the show, check out the opening here.

This hallway is at UVA, and is part of the buildings on The Lawn that were the original campus. These buildings were designed by Thomas Jefferson, and others, as the first buildings on campus. Prestigious rooms to have as a student, the Pavilion rooms on the lawn date to the early 1800s, if I remember correctly. Any UVA alums out there, please set me straight!

Campus Life

Walking around the campus in Charlottesville, Virginia, wonderful afternoon/evening sun. This young lady was studying on the steps on the main quad. That looked like quintessential college life!
