The Notch

Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. This is a view looking down the notch, the waterfall behind where I was standing.

This was discovered by a 93 year old woman who was out fishing one day, back in the early 19th century. From what I learned, there was a massive boulder wedged between the sides of the notch until the 1940s. A huge storm (might've been a hurricane) came through. The river and waterfall swelled, and the boulder was dislodged and washed away. Despite its massive size, it was never found. Pretty neat story, pretty neat place. I recommend a visit.
