Glow

More of the candle macro shots from a couple of weeks ago. The glow is coming from the flame; the bright strip across the upper middle is the rim of the candle holder.

Growing Up

That's my daughter. I remember when she had short hair and was stuffing rice up her nose. Now, she's a beautiful young lady with a heart of gold.

I adjusted the tree lights in Photoshop using the tutorial found here at Once Remembered Action.

Here's Looking at You, Kid

The result of the practice shots I put in the triptych on the last post. This is in our basement, in front of a wall we painted with this accent color. I love the look on J's face...now I'm wishing he didn't have his head in his hands, cuz you can't see all of him. Oh well...I think it still worked out well.

I had my SB600 flash on my old tripod, camera right and above my head. Set to 1/8th power, I think.

Flicker

I just had to shoot something last night. After a day of yard work and other stuff, I finally picked up the camera about 10:00 last night. This candle with a stained glass around it had caught my eye earlier in the week. I played around with shooting with natural light and flash, but the natural light worked best.

By the way, this is my 500th post on the Mexipickle photoblog. Whoo hoo!

Imperfection

The air bubbles in the stained glass of this candle caught my eye the other night. After about 32,000 tries, I got a shot I was reasonably happy with. Not sure the focus is as spot-on as I'd like.

3 of J

This weekend I was working on my portrait technique and lighting. I'm working on a project for a Christmas present. I made J be my model as I worked on composition and lighting. He claimed he didn't like being the model, but I think the pictures tell another story!

Head Shot

More from our impromptu photo shoot while waiting for our food at McDonald's the other night. My kids don't model (well, I don't ask them too), so I just shoot what I can when I can. I'm pleased with the way this shot of my daughter turned out.

I used my SB-600, sitting on the table camera right, below the camera and the subject, camera on shutter priority set to 1/500 and flash stepped down to 1/64 power, I think. My camera won't record flash activity if it is off-camera. Sorry!

Watching

Tonight, I was up to my old tricks, taking my camera into the restaurant during dinner. This time, it was McDonald's (which I never go to). But, J was having a special outing, so he got to pick. He was actually staring at the playground in this shot, watching the other kids who were playing. He didn't get to play tonight (no time--off to his performance), so he was a bit jealous, I think.

For any Strobists who might see this, I had my flash on a stand on the table top, camera right and below J's head. The power was set to 1/64th (I think, might've been 1/128th). I shot in Aperture priority mode, shutter set to 1/500.
