Back Burner

More from my playing around with the back brush and the speedlight. For this shot, the brush was suspended over the speedlight by a few inches. Speedlight was aimed up through the brush bristles. The photo is of the round nubs on the back of the brush. I think the flash was at 1/128th, but I'm not sure of that. Fired by CLS on my D70.

Blue Bristles

So, I had the afternoon home alone, 'cuz I'm sick. That means....photo experimenting! Using some ideas I learned at Strobist, I thought I'd see what interesting item I could shoot that would help me solidify some of the thinking I read about there. This is the "studio" setup I used to take some shots (okay, about 75 of them) of, er, the back brush from the shower.

Here's a shot of my "home studio" where I took the above photo. Taken with a 60mm micro lens, flash off camera left, about 8" away from the brush. Flash was 1/128 power and even with the brush and lens.

Autumn

A cold snap came through in the last week or two. For us Southerners, it was close to winter temps....below freezing in the morning, but up to the 50s during the day. Most of you know we're having a drought. I am seeing much more red in the trees this Autumn; I wonder if the drought is contributing to that?

This is the side yard of our home, looking toward our neighbor's (that's their van through the branches). While out playing soccer yesterday, I noticed the sun lighting up these trees and grabbed the ol' Nikon.

Gene

Gene is still waiting for Clara. It's always sad for me to see a headstone with 2 names on it, but only one person buried there. It cries out "loneliness" to me....the survivor alone without her mate, the one who's gone ahead maybe lonely for his mate, left behind. I also think it would be spooky to see your name on the headstone when you're not dead....like a prophecy waiting to be fulfilled.

I told you...I'm kinda tetched in the head ;-)

Beach Weather

During our visit to Jekyll Island, we were blessed with overcast weather the entire time. No complaints...it made the biking easier since we didn't have hot sun or humidity. But, it made getting good shots a bit of a challenge.

Driftwood Beach

More from Jekyll Island. This was a long exposure taken on Driftwood Beach, rated the 5th most romantic beach (but I don't know who did that).

The EXIF info is missing from this shot, so here it is....18mm, f/9, 49.8 sec, ISO 200.

This is right out of the camera...just converted from RAW to JPG using Picasa.

Horton Hears A.....

This is called the Horton House, because Major Horton, aide to General Oglethorpe, founder of the state of Georgia, lived here, on Jekyll Island. Of course, we referred to it as "Horton Hears a Who" House, but that's just us.....

This is built out of "tabby", which is a mixture of oyster shells, lime, water, and sand. It was poured into forms and used to make walls. That process was used in south Georgia until the late 1800s.

I have another version of this using the "Regular Joe" effect, but I like the saturation and color in this one better. A little too subdued in the RJ effect. If you want to see that one, let me know.
