Leafy in Red

I don't usually like this technique. Somthing about this shot called for me to try it. What do you think? Too contrived? Too boring? Bad shot, nothing would help it anyway?

Floaters

If you look closely, you can tell that these leaves are floating. This creek/river was so clear it was hard to see the water under the leaves. The colors of the leaves and the rocks were a great combination, IMHO.

Reel of Hope

I'm not a fisherman. Never got into it. But, whenever I see someone fishing, or I do toss out a line, it's amazing how much hope there is. Every time a line is cast, the fisher knows--KNOWS--that this time is the one....a fish, maybe a big one, is coming back. And folks do this for hours at a time.

I don't know if these folks were fishing to have something to eat, kill time, or just because they liked being out by the water and in the sun. But, I saw the positive attitude every time the hook went flying toward the water.

Hm....maybe I'll have to try it again!

The Notch

Franconia Notch State Park in New Hampshire. This is a view looking down the notch, the waterfall behind where I was standing.

This was discovered by a 93 year old woman who was out fishing one day, back in the early 19th century. From what I learned, there was a massive boulder wedged between the sides of the notch until the 1940s. A huge storm (might've been a hurricane) came through. The river and waterfall swelled, and the boulder was dislodged and washed away. Despite its massive size, it was never found. Pretty neat story, pretty neat place. I recommend a visit.

Standing Guard

A cement banister stands guard next to the bay in Jacksonville. I was struck by the brightness of the supports against the blue water and red bricks.

Grass Shadows

I found a nice little park in Jacksonville yesterday and took a little break from the day. I can never remember if these are Live Oak or Water Oak (I think Live Oak), but the shapes of the branches are so interesting. The combination of water, grass, shadows, and color really caught my eye. I took a shot processed at different exposures and combined them in PhotoShop using a Grad Filter method....a first for me!

Wetting a Line

Took a short break today while I was in Jacksonville and found this little park to walk around. There were several folks fishing, though I didn't see much luck on the hook end. These guys were discussing whether to stay or not (they left soon after I took this)...and I think they were talking about what I was taking shots of, but they didn't say anything to me.

Blue Sunset

Taken from a bridge over the river, near Carrol, NH. I probably took 30 shots as the sun was going down. I think I like this one the best, though I might work on a couple composite shots with different exposures for the sky and the river.

Promise

Early morning during our visit to New Hampshire. I hauled my butt out of bed and down to the river, just in time to catch the fog hanging over the water as the sun peeked down the path. Moments like this drive home the promise held in every day, the promise of good things to do and see and become. © 2006 Mexipickle   Posted by Picasa

Mt. Washington Hotel

The view from the back porch of the Mt. Washington Hotel, looking back toward the rear of the hotel and toward Mt. Washington. A beautiful spot and gorgeous hotel. Maybe one day I can afford to stay there!© 2006 Mexipickle  Posted by Picasa
