When I was a kid, the only thing I wanted was baseball--watching it, playing it, reading about it, practicing it, collecting cards about it--anything. I always had my glove on my hand, a PitchBack in the yard, or was tossing pop flys to myself. We played baseball or cork ball or stick ball or wiffle ball--anything as long as we could throw and bat.
This may be my favorite shot of me. I was 6 years old and my dad was playing softball (fast ptich, or course). I always sat or stood at the fence, watching everything. Dad was the pitcher, and man, could he throw! By this age, I was already catching (with gear) for my older brother's Little League team, even though I was too young to play (back then, they didn't let you play until you were seven). I even had an old fashioned "calculator" that I kept score with--the kind that had like 8 columns and you used a stylus to move a track of numbers and it would add/subtract/mulitply/divide automatically.
I still love baseball, but I don't play anymore. But gosh, this photo puts me back at that field and with that passion all over again!
