Friday Night Lights

Last week, storms ripped through Atlanta around 5. We took a chance that the football game would be spared, and we were right! But, we still got to see quite a show in the sky.

S B

We spent some time at a church festival this afternoon. The crowd was very interesting....many Hispanics, Asians, Africans, and Caucasians. There were games and a wide array of international food. It made me happy to see so many folks with so many cultural traditions coming together to just have fun, play games, and be together.

Is this country cool, or what?

Oh, this boot was on a boy, maybe 10 years old, who was trying hard to drop the kid in the dunkin' booth. He hit it with a ball once, and all the times after that he threw the balls, missed, and ran up and hit the trigger to drop the kid!

Post Processing

Culled from the archives from our vacation early this summer, this is a boat dock (duh!) in Calabash, North Carolina, just across the border from where we were staying in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

Just Right of Center

My wife and I got to go to the Braves Friday night, as I mentioned in an earlier post. I got to go again on Sunday with my son and his classmate.

This was last Friday night, a rough night for the Braves. Jeff Francouer and Andruw Jones ready for the ball.

Point Park

A confession: I am not a native Southerner, unless Southern California counts. Originally from Los Angeles, my family moved to the Southeast (NC) when I was eight years old. That's where my interest in US history started...with the Revolutionary War battle near Greensboro, where we lived. When we ended up in Chattanooga during my high school years, my interest in the Civil War grew. Frequent field trips to Lookout Mountain (Point Park) and Chickamauga battlefield just fueled that interest. Of course, I also learned that true Southerners do not call the Civil War the Civil War...because it was not Civil. Many referred to it was The War Between the States, but my favorite was "The War of Northern Aggression."

Just thought you'd like to know.....

Step Up

Digging through the archives, I found this shot from early Summer. This is part of the entry gate to Point Park on Lookout Mountain, Georgia. Part of the critical Civil War battles around Chattanooga, Point Park offers stunning views of Chattanooga and several surrounding states, as well as the Tennessee River as it snakes its way around Chattanooga.

NOT!

We got to go to the Braves/Mets game last night (thanks bro!). Unfortunately for the home team, the Mets crushed the Braves. Of course, going to the game is always fun.

This is a crappy shot, but I was hoping it was a theme for the night. Alas, Chipper Jones and Mark Texeira both popped up with the bases loaded and less than 2 outs....kind of how the game went for the Braves. They lost again today. We're heading to the game tomorrow, too (thanks again, bro!), to see Smoltz vs. Glavine. Should be fun....root, root, root for the home team!

Update: Today's game was more of the same, though the 9th inning was exciting. I got to take two 7 year olds to the game, which always makes it more fun.
